Xbox One Headset Adapter Not Expected Until 2014

In a recent press release announcing an extended partnership with Microsoft, audio product manufacturer Turtle Beach stated that its upcoming XO FOUR and XO SEVEN headsets for the Xbox One will not be available until 2014 because Microsoft isn’t ready with the adapter.
“Turtle Beach expects to launch the XO FOUR and XO SEVEN headsets for the Xbox One console in the first quarter of 2014. Microsoft has informed its partners in the Xbox One console launch that the Xbox One Headset Adapter, being built by Microsoft and provided to Turtle Beach for inclusion with new gaming headsets, will not be available until early 2014. Both companies will leverage the additional time to build supply to meet anticipated high-demand when the headsets launch.”
The Xbox One uses a proprietary headset jack which makes the use of 3rd party headsets that are not specifically designed for it, as well as existing Xbox 360 headsets, unable to be used with the console without an adapter. Turtle Beach’s announcement is a little surprising as one would think that headsets destined for the Xbox One would be designed to use the native interface on the console, but perhaps Turtle Beach wants people to be able to use them on other devices.
