Xbox One and PS4 Set For Ultra HD Models This Year, According to Netflix

Sony and Microsoft are due to release Ultra HD iterations of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year as part of the console manufacturers’ “traditional two-year refresh” cycle, according to Netflix.

Neil Hunt, Chief Product Officer for Netflix, suggested at CES 2015 that Sony and Microsoft are both planning hardware upgrades for their current consoles, and now Forbes has confirmed that Netflix fully expects new models for the two platforms, supporting Ultra HD video output, by the end of this year.

The Xbox One is thought to already contain the hardware necessary for Ultra HD output, so it is conceivable that a mere software update is all that is required to unlock its potential, while Samsung has hinted that it will be providing GDDR5 memory modules for a redesigned PS4.

Sony and Microsoft have declined to comment.
