A Microsoft spokesperson, Albert Penello, has told the public via his Twitter that the Xbox One will be quieter than the Xbox 360 Slim according to Next Power Up. The Xbox 360 Slim was known for being a lot quieter than the original Xbox 360 designs because Microsoft had redesigned the entire console with more efficient components to save on both heat, power and noise output. In this instance the Xbox One looks like it will follow in its footsteps.
Hearing that the Xbox One is quieter is not at all surprising and if you consider how large the chassis of the Xbox One is you can understand why airflow is high enough to keep the device quiet. The PlayStation 4 on the other hand is much slimmer so we could expect to see it being a lot noisier.
Microsoft have probably made a smart move keeping the Xbox One quieter because if they want you to use it in your living room as an entertainment centre for movies and TV as well as games then the last thing you want is fan noise ruining the media experience.
