Xbox One S Controllers Won’t Require Adapter to Connect to PC

When it comes to PC controllers, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers have become the standard that is expected, with many games’ build in controller key-prompts being based on the controller. These controllers have always had one annoyance however, you either stick to the old-fashioned wired controller or pay almost excessive amounts for a USB wireless adapter just to use a wireless controller with your PC. Thankfully, Microsoft may now have listened to their fans complaints with the revised Xbox One controller revealed at E3 that will debut with the Xbox One S.

For starters, as before, the new Xbox One controller will be one sale separately to the new console, meaning you won’t have to shell out for a new Xbox to get the benefits of the controller. But, more importantly, the controller finally does away with the expensive wireless adapter usually required for PC, instead including the capability for the controller to connect to any PC with Bluetooth capabilities out of the box. When used with the Xbox One, however, the controller will still use WiFi Direct for connectivity, so for Xbox One users, the controller will work just as before with any edition of the console, while PC users will be able to make the most of the new Bluetooth functionality.

It is good to see that Microsoft is finally helping PC gamers adopt wireless controllers, which have been the standard for consoles for years now, instead of clamouring for profits from adapters. The Xbox One S is set to hit the market in August this year, with the controllers set to release on the 31st of the month on Amazon and will cost £49.99 ($59.99) each.
