Xbox Series S Version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Helped Optimize All Platforms

Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, the public relations manager at Warhorse Studios, explained that developing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 for Xbox Series S helped to optimize the game for other platforms as well. In other words, the work done to make the game run on the least powerful console of the generation had benefits for everyone.
Optimizations That Helped Other Platforms
During an interview on the Iron Lords Podcast (thanks Windows Central), Stolz-Zwilling shared, “Optimizations for Xbox Series S helped a lot for other platforms,” adding that everyone benefited from the experience. “Since you have to dial down a few things and be cleverer where you can with the programming,” he said.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was developed using a custom version of CryEngine. On Xbox Series S, it runs at 30 fps, while on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, it runs at 30 fps in quality mode and 60 fps in performance mode.
Controversies Surrounding Xbox Series S
The Xbox Series S has often been at the center of controversy, with some game studios struggling with optimizations for the console. Some developers even expressed frustration at having to work with it due to its lower power. One example is Baldur’s Gate 3, where Larian Studios directly blamed the Xbox Series S for delaying the console release. The problems were significant enough that features like split-screen co-op mode, which were available in other versions, are now being added to the Series S version with Patch 8, which is currently being tested.
Lastly, it’s worth remembering that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is now available on Xbox Series X and S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
