Earlier in the year, one of the rumours that came out around Polaris 10 was that it would be delayed. The suggestion was that AMD wouldn’t have any Polaris products to show until October. Shortly after, AMD debunked those rumours and reveal the RX 480 to the world last month. In just under 10 days, the new GCN 4.0 based graphics card will debut to the world. In further support of availability, a leak has come out showing the production line.
According to the leaker, the image shows the XFX production and packaging facility for the RX 480. If XFX has cards already rolling on the production line, other AIB partners are also probably ramped up as well. Retailers have also been reported to be receiving stock already for the last week so hopefully, we won’t into any supply issues. One of the big complaints about past launches and Nvidia’s Pascal launch is how they’ve been largely paper launches with products slow to arrive.
For the card itself, it appears to be a blower design, likely the reference model. XFX has been nice enough to include a fall backplate, just as earlier leaks have suggested. I can’t wait to see how the custom models will look like!
