XFX Radeon R9 280X Double Dissipation Graphics Card Spotted

While AMD’s new R9 280X is pretty much based on the HD 7970 GHz Edition AMD is still expecting its AIB partners to come up with fresh looking designs so that consumers feel they are getting something new and different. The XFX R9 280X pictured above, via VideoCardz, is a prime example of this and even though it uses what is essentially a HD 7970 GHz Edition GPU, XFX have still outfitted a totally new cooling design to it. XFX will probably recycle the same PCB design of the previous HD 7970 GHz Edition they made though the unlocked voltage specified by the box could suggest a more advanced PCB VRM.
The card uses a dual 100mm fan cooler with your standard choice of copper heat pipes and aluminium heatsinks underneath an outer shroud.

At the core of the XFX R9 280X DD is a Tahiti XTL GPU based on the 28nm process. This, like the HD 7970 GHz Edition, uses 2048 GCN stream processors, 128 TMUs, 32 ROPs and a 384 bit memory interface that supports 3GB of memory. Like the HD 7970 GHz Edition it is also expected to be clocked above 1GHz though the memory is boosted from the 6GHz we saw on the  HD 7970 GHz Edition to 6.4GHz.

Pricing will be between $299 and $329.
