A new RX 480 Crimson Edition has been added to XFX’ Radeon video card lineup, featuring dual red LED fans built on the design of their Dual Dissipation cooler. These 480 Crimson edition fans are detachable and hard-swappable so maintenance is a breeze. Since they easily detach, users can also upgrade, mod or replace them quite easily. The default fans by design do not need to operate continuously and remain idle when the GPU load is idle, resulting in silent operation most of the time.
Fans are an essential function of a graphics card and directly affect it’s performance, and even though we use the best fan’s on the market the performance will decrease over time. In the past it was difficult if not impossible to replace GPU fans on your own but now with XFX’s Hard Swap technology, you can upgrade your fan in an instant.
Aside from the fan itself, the XFX logo on the side lights up as a red LED as well. Underneath the shroud is a copper direct-contact heatpipe system designed to be 40% more efficient than previous designs. The RX 480 Crimson Edition’s VRM itself has its own heatsink and does not just rely on the fans blowing on it. An aluminium backplate is also pre-installed at the back of the PCB for additional rigidity and thermal support.
The XFX RX 480 Crimson Edition comes out of the box with a slight core clock of 1288MHz over the 1266MHz reference. It also has 8GHz of GDDR5 memory on a 256-bit bus. It has three DisplayPorts, one DVI-D port and an HDMI 2.0b port for gamers who want VR on a budget. It was initially only available in the US market since October but will soon be available for the European market as well for 259,90 €.
