XFX RX 480 GPU-Z Shows Decent Factory Overclock

Even though AMD has revealed some of the RX 480 details and specifications, many still remain hidden. Based off of the earliest and current leaks, the clock speed has been reportedly set at 1266 Mhz base. Rumours have suggested that this is a conservative clock speed, with AIB partners moving to offer highly overclocked custom models and even more room for overclockers to push the chip. Today, we’re getting a GPU-Z leak that seems to back that up.

Coming from an XFX RX 480, the software utility is reporting a GPU clock of 1328 Mhz. This is a decent increase over the stock clocks and if available at launch, point to impressive future overclocking performance. I expect we’ll see higher numbers closer to 1400 Mhz  as other rumours have suggested. Unfortunately, due to the lack of full GPU-Z support, we are still missing some other details about the chip.

Depending on the clock speed the RX 480 is able to hit, performance could vary between the GTX 980 all the way up to GTX 980 Ti class. Combined with the new GCN 4.0 architecture, it looks like AMD may have a real winner this generation. I can’t wait to see some legitimate performance numbers to see how the card stacks up against Pascal. Luckily, we won’t have long to wait till June 29th.
