XFX XTS 460W Passive Fully Modular Power Supply Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The XFX XTS 460 has a price point of around $120-130, which equates to a UK retail price of about £90-100. The XFX XTS 460 comes with a 5 year warranty.

Conclusion

Just like the XFX XTS 520 the XFX XTS 460 is another top notch power supply. As expected it easily meets the 80 Plus Platinum certification in which it is paraded and because of this efficiency the silent operation is not a problem in the slightest. The usual claim of +-2% voltage regulation that is applied to Seasonic OEM products stands true with the XFX XTS 460: the voltage regulation is very impressive and this is helped by the high quality components the design has to use to reach its Platinum efficiency. We see similarly impressive performance results with the power factor correction (except at 20% load) and with the ripple suppression: the XFX XTS 460 offers exceptional performance, something that is rare for a power supply of this wattage. Typically sub 500W PSUs tend to be based on cheaper components and platforms. Of course this platform is high quality and we know that because of the way Seasonic make it, and the fact it is backed by a healthy 5 year warranty. The XFX XTS 460 is a very new to market product from XFX and as such we couldn’t find much retail availability. However, given what the XTS 520 sells for and what the Seasonic Platinum 460 sells for we know this unit will command a fairly significant price premium – for its wattage at least. The age old saying “you get what you pay for” does ring true here though. It makes sense that if you’re in the market for a passive power supply you need to know what you’re getting is a quality product, when PSU vendors cheap out on components in fan-cooled PSUs it normally isn’t too much of an issue, but when there’s no fan to keep things cool if you’ve get inefficient components, not enough components or components running out of specification then it becomes quickly apparent. Thankfully the XFX XTS 460 suffers from none of those issues so it comes strongly recommended for anyone looking to build a silent and efficient system.

Pros

  • High efficiency
  • Fully modular with high quality cables
  • High PFC
  • Best in class ripple suppression
  • Excellent voltage regulation

  • Expensive!

“Perfect for HTPCs, media PCs and noise-critical workstations the XFX XTS 460 is a great power supply choice for the silence-lover.”
