Xigmatek Asgard 381 Mid-Tower Chassis Review

So there we have it, the Asgard 381 Mid-Tower chassis from Xigmatek. By this point you can most likely tell it’s done rather well in this review, I was impressed that with it’s cooling capabilities, given that it has ample fan mounting points and way able to accommodate our rather large Antec 920 Kuhler water cooling solution.

I would have liked to have seen it fitted with a 2nd fan out of the box, not having an intake fan is a big over sight as most people looking into the budget chassis range likely won’t be looking into after market fans and cooling solutions. While I generally don’t agree with just having any old cheap fan chucked in there for the sake of it, it’s the least you could ask for within the price range and something you will find in many other chassis within the same price range. It is of course not a deal breaker, but if you are making a purchase on the Asgard 381, but an extra fan while you’re at it.

I really like the styling on this chassis too, ok it’s not the best looking design in the world, but when you look at chassis designs for other cases under £40, they tend to look like a simple office computer and have little personality about them. So if you’re looking for a touch of style, the Xigmatek is a good choice and with a range of black, orange and white colours to choose from, you shouldn’t have too much trouble picking one that is right for you.

This is a great solution for anyone looking to build a gaming system on a tight budget, or maybe you want to free up some extra cash for a more powerful graphics card. It’s simple but highly functional design would also lend it’s self to any type of build, for a simple office or work pc, or something like what we installed today, an Intel i5 water cooled rig with a high spec GPU.

The last two Xigmatek chassis we reviewed both walked away with out Bang for Buck Award, even though they cost significantly more than the Asgard 381 they punched well above their weight in terms of features. While the Asgard may not out shine this price range, it does have a robust feature set, with USB 3.0 and 2.0 support, reasonable build quality, some nice overall design features and ample cooling capabilities. All of which help tick those essential features off the list when looking for any computer chassis. There may be similar specification chassis for the money, but at such a low price point, they are rarely implemented so well, which is why I am happy to once again award Xigmatek with another of our eTeknix Bang for Buck awards.
