XOLO Readies “World’s Lightest Smartphone” Powered by Windows

The attempt to draw as many OEMs as possible looks to be successful for Microsoft, having its Windows Phone operating system gain some ground in the smartphone and tablet sector. One of them is XOLO, a local manufacturer from India, is one of the OEMs ‘recruited’ by Microsoft. Recently, the manufacturer released a new 10.1-inch Windows 8.1 tablet powered by an AMD Temash A4-1200 and Radeon HD8180.

XOLO however is attempting to move forward to the smartphone market as well, having announced a new Windows Phone device. However, the manufacturer is also looking to make it something more than just another Windows-powered smartphone, having announced that it will feature an ultra-light body, lighter than anything currently out on the market. The manufacturer’s background states that it has dealt with Android-powered smartphones in the past, therefore they are not quite new in this business. However, the ‘world’s lightest smartphone’ title remains to be seen.

In terms of specifications, the smartphone is said to come with a 4.7-inch display and be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 Quad-Core processor, while having the Adreno 302 GPU do all the graphical processing. There is no information currently on what resolution it will boast, but what is clear is that the manufacturer intends to make the smartphone weigh in at just 100g. That is just 13g less than the iPhone 5s and 7g less than the Galaxy S4.

Rumors are that the claims are bound to be in the actual product soon, having XOLO intending to launch the smartphone in the coming weeks for a price tag of just $200. The smartphone is said to be released on the Indian market, but it is still unclear if it will be available worldwide as well later on.
