XPG Core Reactor 850 Gold Power Supply Review

Over Power Protection and Max Wattage

Despite only being officially rated to 850 watts (which is more than sufficient for the vast majority of even the most elaborate gaming PCs) it isn’t uncommon nor indeed unusual for power supplies to be capable of providing significantly more wattage beyond that official value. When you get into those realms, however, while not recommended for long-term usage, it’s important to know that a power supply’s OPP works correctly. Namely, to shut the PSU down before metaphorical (and sometimes literal) sparks start flying.

In terms of additional wattage output, however, the XPG Core Reactor was amazingly able to pump out an addition 400 watts before the protections successfully kicked into place! This is, quite possibly, and simply in terms of numbers, one of the biggest results we have ever encountered from a PSU when compared to the ‘base’ value (the average is usually about 200-300 watts).
