XPG GAMMIX D20 16GB 3600MHz DDR4 Memory Review

A Closer Look

I have to give credit to XPG, it really does look fantastic with that black on black finish. It’s got a toned down matte finish, so it’s not too shiny. It does reflect light, but once it’s in a motherboard and hidden in a case, it’s unlikely to catch as much light as it does on my desktop.

They’ve really kept the branding minimal too, which I love. Just a simple XPG logo in the middle. I like the heatsink design too, with understated, but still have a few tucks and rolls to keep it interesting. Furthermore, that little line of holes at the top and bottom looks cool; it reminds me of a gun barrel (I’m not sure what that style is actually called though).

The PCB is all black, albeit, I can’t recall the last time I saw RAM that didn’t have a black PCB. Green PCBs seemed to die out with DDR3… but I digress! The heatsink isn’t enormous on these, but there’s a good weight to them, so there’s definitely a good chunk of metal in there.

There’s a little ventilation at the top here, but overall, I’m confident the heatsink will ensure solid performance from this kit.

As you can see, this is the 1.35v 3600MHz kit, and the timings look great too, offering up CL 18-20-20 latency. That’s not the fastest out there, but it’s more than enough to give XPG an edge in performance.

Overall, really understated and stylish, and for a monochrome build, they’re going to look pretty awesome.
