The old Tomb Raider games always manage to stir some nostalgia for those of us who started gaming in the 90s. Actually, the very first Tomb Raider game came out in 1996 for PC, PlayStation consoles, and Sega Saturn consoles, and it paved the way for many other titles that follow the adventures of the renowned archaeologist Lara Croft. Recently, a Tomb Raider forum member named XProger revealed his work on an open-source engine of the first Tomb Raider named OpenLara. He even went ahead and released this project for everyone, and the best news is that the game can actually be played in your browser.
The title can be enjoyed in both first-person and third-person modes, and while the classic game was locked at 30FPS, this new version is completely unlocked. By leveraging hardware acceleration, the engine looks a bit better when compared to the original, but you shouldn’t really expect anything groundbreaking in terms of graphics. If you want to try out the first Tomb Raider in your browser, all you have to do is visit the project’s official website right here.
Are you enjoying the modern Tomb Raider games, or do you think that the classic ones are still the best?
