Since YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen’s AVOS company first emerged a year ago when it acquired Delicious from Yahoo, we’ve heard nothing about anything else it may be working on – until now. A splash page for a new service called Zeen has emerged, promising to allow you to “Discover and create beautiful magazines.”
Domain-name-sleuthing blog Fusible discovered the page after noticing that Zeen.com had been privately acquired through brand protection agency MarkMonitor earlier this week.
At present, there’s not much information available about how the service will work, although it does give you the opportunity to secure a username. The Privacy Policy page indicates that multimedia sharing will be a core part of the service, and suggests that there will be a browser bookmarklet available.
A ‘Jobs’ link takes you through to the AVOS jobs page, where the company currently has seven development and design-based vacancies. Meanwhile, Fusible also spotted Twitter and Facebook presences for the new service.
In a recent interview with Chad Hurley, he declined to detail any future projects, although he did describe AVOS as a “sandbox” that allowed the team to build ideas into products quickly using “common building blocks.” “That’s going to give us the ability to not only innovate and work on Delicious but to continue to use the same learnings and technology to build more services,” he noted.
