YouTube Look To Work With Low-End YouTube Channels To Boost Revenue

YouTube Attempts To Appease Low-End Channels

If you’re trying to make a living at YouTube, unless you are already established, it can be difficult work. For those that did make, it should point out that it didn’t (at least for the majority) happen overnight, but now they’re there, as long as they don’t do anything too stupid they should be set for the future.

In an attempt to address criticisms and loss of advertisers YouTube has made a number of changes within the last year. I think it’s fair to say that most of these have not gone down too well. Particularly with their content creators. Especially those on the lower end of the scale.

Put simply, it’s really difficult to get a video monetized these days unless you already have a major following.

To make matters even more difficult, however, YouTube recently shifted the goalposts again meaning that a significant number of the ‘low-end’ users would now be cut out of monetization completely.

Well, it seems that the video hosting site is willing to throw those cast-off a possible lifeline. Will it be enough to stop them sinking though?…

Lifeline to low-level content creators

In a report via Polygon, YouTube is looking into plans to allow low-level users who have (or will be) cut from monetization to promote their Patreon or Kickstarter pages further.

Firstly, I love the irony that it was a policy change that minimised this in the first instance. Back in September, the video hosting site removed users from being able to link Patreon pages in their videos.

While they have not yet commented as to how they intend to implement this, it is at least a ray of sunshine peeking through a dirty cloud at the moment.

What do you think? Is YouTube at risk of losing the bulk of its content creators? What would your solution be? – Let us know in the comments!
