YouTube Pulls Ridiculous ‘Tide Pod Challenge’ Videos From Website

Tide Pod Challenge
If anyone ever wanted to make a case that the human race doesn’t have a chance, a 10-minute mooch round YouTube would probably give you some decent evidence.
The video hosting site has been host to a number of ridiculous videos over the years. Most recently we saw the instance of a man cementing a microwave on his head.
One of the perhaps most stupid I have ever heard of, however, is the ‘Tide Pod Challenge’. As part of this challenge, people were literally eating soap tablets. Yes, laundry detergent tablets you’d pop in the washing machine along with your unmentionables.
Initially beginning life as a low-level joke last year, within the last few weeks the ‘trend’ has exploded. As such, upon recommendation from health officials, YouTube has decided to pull all ‘Tide Pod Challenge’ videos.
But…But… Why?!
Apparently, the whole trend started because of the similarity between the detergent tablets and sweets. In fairness, I can kinda see their point, but not to the stage that I’d try a taste test to find out.
In this regard, it’s not even the first similar trend we have seen. The cinnamon challenge was, for a while, the big thing, then similarly, in addition, we saw the ‘bath salt’ challenge.
Speaking in a report via CNET, YouTube has said: “YouTube’s Community Guidelines prohibit content that’s intended to encourage dangerous activities that have an inherent risk of physical harm. We work to quickly remove flagged videos that violate our policies.”
The ‘Tide Pod Challenge’ may, therefore, have been brought to an abrupt end, but as far as I’m concerned I think its ridiculous people did it in the first instance. I’m pretty sure Darwin had a theory about such behaviour.
What do you think? On a scale of 1-10, how dumb do you think this is? In addition, why?… Just Why?… – Let us know in the comments!
