The popularity of Fortnite throughout 2018 is certainly beyond question. As we approach the end of the year, we have seen in already start to top many lists and accolades and it seems that YouTube, in reviewing their figures for the year, has further positive news for the franchise.
With the top 10 (in terms of reception) gaming trailers revealed for 2018, Fortnite finds itself holding four of the positions. Beyond this though, the game actually holds all top 3 spots.
With the release of new season packs, people often turn to YouTube to gauge the new content. Largely to try and ascertain how it will work in-game. As such, it is, for want of a better description, the litmus test as to how well any updates are going to be received. It is, therefore, hardly any surprise with the popularity of the game to see three of its trailers as the most popular videos of 2018.
The most popular game trailer of the year was the Season 5 reveal. In a report via PCGamesN, it amassed over 48 million views. Similarly, Port-a-view got 35 million with Playground Mode just pipped with 34 million. These figures alone should give you a clear idea (just in case you have been living under a rock or have emerged from a coma) just how big a phenomenon this game has been.
Surprisingly, the only other PC game (in terms of released formats) that appears on the list is Fallout 76. This (despite the negative reception on launch) achieved 33.8 million views. I’m sure Bethesda are diispointed that those views didn’t translate into sales!
