There’s nothing that annoys me more than getting lag on YouTube despite having a reasonably fast and reliable fibre optic connection. YouTube knows that lag is still a problem and according to Gizmodo it is working on a handful of new ways to try and remove lag for good.
The first of these ways to kill lag is download everything the site needs in parallel not separately meaning the JavaScript, CSS, Flash Player and so on all start loading at the same time. Another method has been to retain page information because most YouTube users will watch multiple videos so it is easy for them to just skip to another video without having to reloaded the entire site again, they can just load the new video. For example YouTube only updates the video, related video, comments, uploader’s info and so on.
The final method in YouTube’s armoury is pre-loading and it will load the first few seconds of each video in the related category or suggested videos that way if you decide you want to watch them then it will have already started the loading process. Of course all this requires that you have a decent internet connection and that data usage is not an issue, I am sure YouTube will make a lighter version of YouTube for Android and iOS.
