Zalman FG1000 FPS Gun

A Closer Look
After removing all the packaging and taking out the product you can see the frankly quite weird shape. My first impressions were that it doesn’t exactly resemble a gun shape from any angle – well except up-side down which is a tad useless. However, from the back it does look quite good; it has a nice flowing design which looks to give good hand support.

From the left-hand side you can see the scroll wheel in what is quite a weird location. Normally a scroll wheel is operated by your middle finger but in this case it is operated by your thumb, we will see later whether this is a good idea or not. You can also see the two extra side buttons, which are mostly designed for up and down selection of weapons or similar during games. Moving further forwards you can see the linkage between the hand-held part and the sensor itself. This is the main feature of the Zalman gun as it improves the turning angle of the sensor allowing for quicker rotation and more real-life like at that. The bridge between the two is quite weird unfortunately, it looks as if it should pivot in the vertical direction but it is rigid– also this bridge is only one side.

Moving to the right hand side of the device you can see the slightly rubbery plastic that has been added to improve grip and comfort. Further forwards you can see the two trigger buttons, these are of course the left and right mouse button clicks and of course the positioning of these during gaming is key. On the sensor section is the 5th button(5th not including the Scroll Wheel as a button) which is in what looks to be in an awkward position, however this is to only adjust the DPI Setting of the device.

On the bottom of the device are 8 feet, 4 on each of the sections as well as the standard copyright and specifications. The sensor is of course in the front section (cable end) giving a larger distance to the pivot point, at your hand.

A USB connection is used to connect the device to your computer, and comes with a sufficient amount of lead.
