Software
Once installed, I was surprised to see that it was stored under FPSGun’ on the start menu and not Zalman’ as I was expecting. After the configuration panel has loaded which will require a restart you will be faced with a rather grey looking box. In fact it looks like it should belong on Windows 95 or earlier.
There are 4 pages to the software, the first being Buttons’, which as expected allows you to set the commands of the 5 main buttons the 6th (DPI switch) is not programmable. The options for each button is limited to just left and right clicks, scroll, forward and back and double click’ which seems a major flaw. On the on bottom of this page is the Double-Click Speed option which is similar to the standard Windows options.
The second page is called Wheel & Pointer’ and allows you to adjust the scroll speed, the pointer speed, the pointer acceleration and a click box for setting automatic pointer placement on or off.
The third and most interesting page, the Advanced Settings’, allows you to set 3 DPI settings. For low DPI the options are 400/600, for mid DPI 800/1000/1200 and for high DPI 1600/2000. You can also adjust the polling rate down from the default 1000 Hz. A nice feature that has also been added allows you to adjust the x-axis and y-axis speed options giving you tailored movements for your game. There is also a very limited profile setting option, allowing you to select pre-set profiles.
The fourth page, Updates’, is not a page; it is in fact a hyperlink which will load Zalman’s website update page.
