Zelda Wins Game of Year – Team Give Hilariously Honest Speech

Zelda: BotW developers say thank you in a hilariously honest acceptance speech
At the recent Golden Joystick awards, Zelda: Breath of the Wild was awarded game of the Switch following its release on the Nintendo Switch. In fairness, it was a good winner. The game on the Switch is a joy to behold and exceptionally fun to play. Despite already completing it on the Wii-U, I’m already playing it to death again on my Switch.
Incidentally, if you missed the awards, you can check out all of the winners here.
Although the team behind Zelda was not able to attend the awards, they did accept it via video link. They also gave, what will perhaps be remembered, as the most honest acceptance speech in gaming ever heard before.
Brutally honest and very humble.
The team behind Zelda, led by their producer Eiji Aonuma accepted the award. In truth, they were very gracious and humble but did add one little hilarious point.
They basically confessed that they were lucky that the voting closed only a week after the release of Mario Oddysey. Otherwise, they clearly (and I think very honestly) would not have expected to have won. It is, however, hard to overlook just what a major success the new Mario game has been.
It’s a very gracious announcement of the fact that Mario Odyssey is an excellent game. Whether it’s better than Zelda is debatable, but still, it’s nice to see that the teams within Nintendo clearly have a lot of respect for each other.
I would suggest that the Zelda team need not feel too bad about it. I’m pretty certain Mario Odyssey is going to clean up at Golden Joystick 2018.
What do you think? A nice touch or were they just being honest? – Let us know in the comments!
