While we still don’t know the full hardware specs for the Nintendo Switch, despite the console’s release being less than two months away, we do know that the home/portable hybrid system will have a paltry 32GB of onboard storage. One of the most exciting games dues for the Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has been confirmed as a launch title for the console, but looking at the size of the digital version, you might want to pick up a physical copy of the game. According to Japanese Nintendo store, Breath of the Wild will take up 13.4GB of space on the Switch; that’s nearly half the hardware’s onboard storage.
Nintendo is keen to remind prospective Switch customers that its new console does support microSD card expansion. A Nintendo spokesperson told Game Informer: “Nintendo Switch is compatible with the SDXC standard, which supports up to 2TB. (Note that 2TB cards are not yet on the market, but the system will support them when they are.)”
While the spokesperson admits that 2TB SDXC cards don’t exist, we’re still awaiting a 1TB version, too. The best we can do right now is a 512GB microSDXC card or a 256GB microSDHC card, both of which are supported by the Switch.
