One downside, or upside depending on your needs, is that this card is larger than most of the other SUPER cards launching today, it features a much longer cooler that allows for three fans vs the two seen on most other variants. This does limit its compatibility with some smaller form factor cases, but does mean that the overall cooling capabilities of the card are greatly increased.
The fans are quite tightly packed in too, with there being very little space between them and them running to near the full width of the shroud, which its self measures 306.8 x 119.4 x 58.5 mm, and the card is a little thicker too at 2.5 slots.
The fans look stunning through, with 11 large fins per fan, all with Zero RPM and smart fan control functions built-in.
Most new super cards are 2 slots thick, but at 2.5 slots, this one has more room for a larger heatsink too, not just more fans.
Right on the side, you’ll find the 12VHPWR connector, which is seen on all the new cards launching today.
The Zotac card is quite curvy, with a wavey shape to the shroud which looks really cool, but this is reflected on the backplate too, which features no sharp corners and has a very unique fluid look to it.
The backplate is full-length, but features a large amount of ventilation towards the back to allow heat to be exhausted more efficiently.
I love this Zotac logo too, it’s painted in two colours that gives it a sort of fake pearlescent paint effect.
There’s an open end on the front of the card, where you can see the ends of the five heat pipes.
At the back, there are four display connections, comprising of three DisplayPort and a single HDMI; the same as the Founders Edition card from Nvidia.
Tearing down the card it’s clear that the PCB is actually a bit longer than most, with an extra inch or so beyond the power connector.
There’s actually some unused mounting points for capacitors and chokes too, which suggests this is the PCB from a higher model such as the RTX 4080 with some features removed to meet the RTX 4070 SUPER requirements.
There are six 2GB VRAM chips here, giving us the 12GB total, and like we’ve seen on all other SUPER cards today, two unused slots, as this PCB can support up to 8 VRAM chips.
The VRM configuration looks decent though, slightly upgraded from the Founders Edition with a few more capacitors.
The backplate features three large thermal pads to ensure it provides additional cooling to the rear of the chipset.
There are three blocks of thermal pads surrounding the GPU, albeit one seems redundant as its placed where there are no chips, but again just shows that this seems like it was lifted right from a higher SQU and plonked on the 4070 SUPER chipset. There are two longer strips of thermal paste covering the capacitors too.
