Mini-PC and Graphics Card manufacturer ZOTAC has launched their two latest external GPU enclosures. The ZOTAC AMP Box and the AMP Box Mini utilize Thunderbolt 3 to deliver high-end graphics expansion to notebooks or mini-PCs. Both models can accommodate dual slot graphics cards from ZOTAC’s lineup.
The main difference between the two are the sizes. Obviously, the AMP Box Mini is the smaller of the two. It only weighs 850g and measures 230 x 183 x 99mm making it highly portable. The small size is also the reason it only supports up to GTX 1060 graphics cards. Specifically, it supports up to 7.8 inches or 200mm long cards and up to 150W GPUs.
Meanwhile the regular AMP Box measures 146mm x 271 x 257.3mm and supports even enthusiast-grade GeForce GTX 1080 Ti video cards. Specifically, it supports graphics card that are up to 9 inches or 228mm in length and up to 250W GPUs.
The devices also support customizable Zotac SPECTRA RGB LED lighting.
Since Thunderbolt 3 uses a Type-C connector, it is compatible with a wide range of components. Aside from graphics card support, users can also use the AMP Box as external PCIe x4 SSD enclosures. The ZOTAC Sonix 480GB NVMe PCIe x4 SSD for example fits in both AMP Box models. As for specific ZOTAC ZBOX Mini PCs compatible with the AMP Box series, users can pick either the CI549 and MI549 Nano, the MI552, MI553 and MI572 Mini-PCs.
These are just eGPU enclosures so graphics cards are sold separately. ZOTAC did not disclose pricing information yet, but these will definitely make an appearance at CES 2018.
