Zowie announces its latest ambidextrous mouse

Zowie, one of the many peripheral manufacturers, has once again worked with gamers alike to produce a new mouse, the ZOWIE AM.

Right from the start, we can see the nice and stylish color scheme and design we expect from any gaming mouse, but Zowie has gone further with specifically designing this mouse for ambidextrous users following requirements stated by gamers as well as users. The gamers mentioned here are two, Abdusamad ‘SpawN’ Mohamed and Emil ‘HeatoN’ Chirstensen, both with enough gaming experience, especially when it comes to Counter Strike.

Even though showing seven buttons, only five are used at any time, and Zowie has been clear about the fact that only two of the four buttons on the side will be active and there’s no changing this setting, saying that people looking for this feature shouldn’t get the mouse.

As for the sensor, Zowie decided to go optical saying that it had proved itself worthy of gaming and decided to re-use the ADNS-3090 sensor used on previous models, since SpawN specifically requested a no prediction sensor. Yet the ADNS-3090 presented a lift off distance far too big to be comfortable, which brought Zowie back to the drawing board to create a new lens, reducing the distance from the original 3.5mm to 1.5mm.

As for the mouse wheel, Zowie uses the same one as their EC-series yet with some improvements.

Easily switchable from hand to hand, no driver is needed, everything is done on the mouse itself which will memorize the settings, avoiding the need to reset everything back from the beginning.

Measuring 125 x 60 x 36 mm (LxWxH) and weighting around 88 g, the USB cable long 2 m features an adjustable report rate of 125, 500 and 1000 Hz, while the mouse itself presents an adjustable DPI of 450,  1150 and 2300, which may not be the highest we know, yet SpawN and HeatoN seem to find it enough.

With no details on the price, the ZOWIE AM will be available sometime in December, depending on your location, although you should have it available for Christmas.
