ZOWIE EC2 eVo Gaming Mouse Review

While this mouse doesn’t look quite as stunning as the EC1 or EC2 in white, it is still a very attractive design. The black gives a very professional look and gives a nice contrast to the white ZOWIE logo which looks good in either Black or White. Even the bottom of the mouse looks like they have put some thought into the shape and design of the logos, feet and even the little button for the DPI.
Comfort wise the EC2 mouse seems to be a touch better, maybe this is due to it being 8mm shorter in length or maybe its due to this version being in black which has a rubberised surface instead of a very shiny gloss finish on the white. It feels much more as if the mouse is part of your hand, without the mouse sticking too well. The two buttons on the left are also positioned in exactly the same place relative so you can press them easily with your thumb without stretching or changing hand position.
In terms of performance we found the 450 DPI option extremely low, and you will find this fairly useless for everday applications, although some gamers do certainly prefer this for some not quite apparent reason. The 1150 DPI is a sensible setting for any everyday mouse when using Windows as it gives you control and speed, although not too generous in the latter. The 2300 DPI setting on the other hand is perfect for gaming, as well as more general tasks like Photoshop, and while everyones preferences are different you can easily change the DIP setting on this mouse, however we do still think the DPI button could be located a bit more conveniently, although as I said last time – it can’t be pressed accidentally.
When gaming, the performance is stunning – ZOWIE really have stayed true to their word, so much so, it easily ranks at the top of our best performing mice. The movement is precise, jitter free and most importantly accurate. The two large feet on the bottom are suitable for any surface, and if these get worn down from some extreme gaming sessions, you can replace them with the spare set!
The ZOWIE lighting system that lets you know which DPI you are using is fairly basic, even crude, but it does work, and while its not the best colour match with the black it does look ok. In the lowest setting you get a very small red tint, and on the 2300 DPI setting you get a dark blue colour – the setting in between is a combination of the two and is fairly faint in comparison.
