ZOWIE GEAR Hammer Gaming Headset Review

Opening up the box we can see we have the headset its self, an extra set of cloth ear cushions and the audio cable extenders.

I do like that it comes with extension cables, some gamers, my self included use either a desktop audio controller that they can plug directly into or the sockets on the front of their PC, meaning a lot of people don’t need or want the extra cable cluttering up their desk space, but if you need to use the ports on the back of your computer to plug directly into your sound card or motherboard you can add in the extra cable needed.

The headset its self is amazingly light, thanks on the most part to its sparse construction and the light materials that have been used.  Along the side we have simple friction sliders for adjusting the length the headband, a simple yet effective method, this also adds the the durability of the set, no complex locking clips and mechanisms means there is a lot less to break, simple can be better and in this case, it is.

The headset its self looks fairly flimsy too, with a flexible and relatively slim rubber headband and simple plastic moulded ear pieces, but that’s because it is, instead of snapping in two when you pull and bend the thing to what you would think is the brink of destruction the Hammer will twist, bend and flex happily to a stunning degree, but not without immediately springing back to normal as soon as you let go, this thing is not going to break in a hurry that is for sure.

The built-in microphone is really durable too, although it kind of looks like a kids toy microphone, but I think that is kind of the point, a toddler could no doubt pull and chew on this thing for a few hours and not get through the plastic casing on this, although I wouldn’t advice you let one try it of course.

It’s a simple microphone to look at and doesn’t offer much in the way of adjustment other than up and down, the microphone is permanently attracted to the side of the headset, but when folded out of the way its light weight means you can completely forget its there.  It’s also mounted on a flexible boom, so any knocks and bumps are not going to snap it off either in use or if you throw it in the bottom of your bag.
