Nintendo Switch Sales Top 114M Making it the 5th Best-Selling Console Ever!

Following its release in 2017, it’s hard to deny that the Switch has represented a monumentally huge success for Nintendo. – A success that, incidentally, was very desperately needed given the relative flop that both the Wii U and 3DS had proven to be with consumers.

While the console is clearly hardly new anymore, however, its sales still continue to do particularly well. Albeit, a key factor in this was undoubtedly seen during the COVID pandemic where it was, pretty much, the only system that was somewhat consistently available. – Following their latest financial call, however, (courtesy of NintendoLife) it seems that the Nintendo Switch hasn’t just been a big success for the company, but it may have finally achieved the accolade of being of the best-selling gaming systems of all time!

Nintendo Switch Tops 114,000,000 Sales!

As part of their latest Q3 earnings report, Nintendo has confirmed that Switch sales have topped 114 million units. A figure which now firmly cements its place as the 5th-best-selling gaming console of all time! – And if that wasn’t impressive enough, with a number of major gaming titles still set to arrive on the platform (including the highly-anticipated Zelda Breath of the Wild sequel), it only has to sell another 4 million units before it’ll beat out the PS4 and GameBoy into 3rd place!

Will it manage to grab that 3rd place though? Well, with only 4 million units needed, you look at those upcoming games below and tell me if you think otherwise…

  • Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – November 18th, 2022
  • Fire Emblem Engage – January 20th, 2023
  • Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe – February 24th, 2023
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – May 12th, 2023

Consistent Success!

While I don’t think it’ll ultimately end up hitting the circa 155 million mark that the PS2 and DS achieved, make no bones about it, the Switch has firmly cemented Nintendo’s future in the home console market for at least the mid-term future! – And, as above, with more games still on the way, even despite the fact that it’s now 5 years old (with a Pro version looking increasingly unlikely), the Nintendo Switch looks certain to continue to shift units for a good while to come!

What do you think though? Do you own a Nintendo Switch? If not, could you be tempted into buying one? – Let us know in the comments!
