Chipset details on Ivy Bridge’s successor Haswell are revealed

Haswell is Intel’s successor to Ivy Bridge, due out in 2013. It will bring a new CPU socket to the market, LGA 1150 and additionally a new chipset to be known as Lynx Point. The naming that Lynx Point will use will be the 8-series chipset. A lot of new things have emerged and we want to summarise them for you in a clear concise way, many other sites have caused a lot of confusion over the actual features of Lynx Point. This what Lynx Point will offer (if the slide is ‘real’):

  • Native SATA III 6Gb/s support for 6 ports, no more SATA II 3Gb/s support on the chipset;
  • Support for Analog displays, The CPUs will support digital displays;
  • Up to 6 USB 3.0 ports, USB ports will be ‘switchable’ between USB 2.0 and 3.0;
  • PCI-E Gen2 DMI (meaning PCI, PCI-E 1X and PCI-E 4X slots will all run off PCI-E 2.0). The Processors will support PCI-E Gen3 for video cards;
  • Smaller Chipset size, 22 by 23mm.

Other more general features include, SSD performance/power optimization, new Rapid Storage Technology driver & Intel vPro Technology enhancements, lower TDP and power usage and support for quad-read SPI devices.
