AMD Claims 45% GPU Market Share in Japan, Sets Sights on 70%
AMD recently held an event in Japan to celebrate the success of its Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards. During the event, which was open to the public and featured AMD’s partners such as Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI, PowerColor, and Sapphire, a company representative made a surprising comment.
They shared (thanks VideoCardz) that AMD was not used to selling so many graphics cards. This was said in response to a question from the audience about the quick sell-out of the RX 9070 models. The representative also mentioned that AMD now holds 45% of the GPU market in Japan.
AMD Aims for 70% Market Share
The company’s statement sparked excitement and laughter from the crowd. However, the representative clarified that this 45% share likely refers to the current sales of GPUs, not the entire market. Regardless, this milestone highlights the success of the RDNA 4 generation of AMD GPUs, and the company is setting its sights on even more growth. The representative boldly stated, “We are the opposition group, so we aim for 70%”, signaling that AMD plans to continue its push for dominance.
Radeon RX 9070 XT’s Cost-Effectiveness
At the same event, AMD also highlighted the cost-effectiveness of its Radeon RX 9070 XT, which is claimed to offer up to 23% better value compared to the NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti. However, this comparison is based on the suggested retail price (MSRP), which is becoming harder to find.
As prices for current GPUs continue to rise, buyers of the Radeon RX 9000 series are now dependent on the pricing set by AMD’s partners, as the company does not offer reference models. Interestingly, NVIDIA may face the same price increases, meaning that the value advantage of the Radeon RX 9070 XT could become even more significant if the RTX 5070 Ti’s price increases at the same rate.
