With just over a week until the release of Windows 10, you’d be forgiven for thinking you know what to expect from Microsoft’s new operating system. However, found hidden in the latest build is a function that will delight many, especially YouTubers: a screen recording tool.
Previously, any Windows user who wanted to record what was happening on their PC screen, either for YouTube tutorials, gameplay videos, or simply personal use, had to invest in dedicated third-party software, such as Camtasia. Now, all the tools you will ever need will be built within Windows 10.
The hidden tool is part of Windows 10’s Game Bar, designed to record Let’s Play-style video game footage, but can be used for a number of different video capture functions. BetaNews, the site that first discovered the Game Bar, describes it thusly:
“The Game bar is a toolbar which Microsoft meant for gamers to use to capture screenshots of their high scores, as well as video footage of their gaming skills. Despite the name, it is not limited to use within games, and you would be forgiven for having missed it as you browsed through the latest version of the operating system — you’re not going to stumble across it by accident.”
The Game Bar can be summoned using a simple shortcut:
“Hit the Windows key and G, and a popup will appear asking if you would like to open Game bar — there are no Yes and No buttons, but check the ‘Yes, this is a game’ box (you will have to do this the first time you access the screen recorder in any application).”
Recording can then be started by either pressing the record button, or using a Windows key +Alt + R keyboard shortcut. Videos can then be accessed through the Windows 10 Xbox app.

What? now this is interesting. I do wish microsoft to update Window Movie maker.
The built-in recording utility of Windows 10 is amazing indeed, but it seems this tool cannot capture desktop. Every time I attempt to use this tool to make demo videos on screen, the output video only display single window. For this case, I tried a third party application calls Macdvd online screen recorder, which works fine on my PC. If there’s someone who has the same problem, wish it would be helpful.
