Ubisoft Pushing Uplay & Pulling Games From Steam
Ubisoft need to stop what they’re doing, get up from their desks, take a walk outside and just stay there for a few weeks. It seems not a day goes by where I don’t get an email with “You’ll never guess what Ubisoft has done” in the title. Today we have heard news that Assassin’s Creed Unity will not be available on Steam in the UK, but it now looks like it runs a lot deeper than that.
“We’ve been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s Creed Unity but for the time being the game is not available via Steam in the UK,” a Ubisoft representative told PCGamesN.
However, it now also looks like Far Cry 4 and The Crew will be joining Unity as the listings for all three games have been pulled from the Steam service entirely.
This means that if you want to purchase these games digitally, you’re going to have to download the UPlay service to play them. The general consensus on Twitter is that no one likes Ubisoft (but that’s hardly breaking news). It also means these games won’t be cropping up in any of the popular Steam Sales we all love so much.

Thank you PC Gamer for providing us with this information.
But even when on Steam, it forces you out to uPlay anyway so now you just get rid of one layer of DRM. Not that I’m defending Ubisoft’s practices, I wish they’d just get rid of uPlay altogether and go with Steam…
Exactly.
The same was experienced by people who purchased WD from Steam.
Now even though they took it from Steam , they still had to log in to uPlay to actually play
I despise uPlay, but more I despise when big companies do what they want and expect us to just get used to it. One thing to remember – Steams practices are far from ethical. Yes, they have the best distribution platform, but they also have near monopoly amongst gaming estores and monopoly is never good. Not for the developers (as Steam can dictate whatever rules they want) and not for us, gamers (as Steam can charge us whatever prices it wants, since there is no competition).
And no one is complaining about EA Origin anymore….
Yeah, doesn’t mean people like it either. I’m sure people have given up because it’s clear EA doesn’t care.
Its more like… People stopped complaining and also stopped buying their games. At some point I personally had 7 distribution platforms on my PC 1 for each game, done with that now and just sticking to steam and if something is not on steam… Oh well, there are ways around
Well… uTorrent it is then. Thanks ubi, your stupid decision helped me save £40 by trying to force me to use your platform, actually after being forced to use name Guest###### in The Crew im not planning to get uplay ever again… Ridiculous
uplay is still rubbish as a game playing platform , why don’t they save money and let Steam host them all. wont be buying any of these three as I Prefer steam and need a massive upgrade before I can play them anyway
uPlay is possibly the worst piece of gaming store software ever. No choice at all, constant problems and resourse hogger at that. This just proves that big companies don’t really care what we want, as long as they can profit from us in some way.Same happens with Facebook, Google, etc.
