Valve Looking to Shutdown CS:GO Gambling Sites

After it was revealed that several high profile YouTubers not only advertised CS:GO gambling sites but also owned the sites, possibly even manipulating the odds so that the rewards seemed higher during their videos, Valve is putting its foot down and is looking to stop the sites with cease and desist letters.

Richard Lewis, the eSports hosts and editor for Turner Sports published a video stating that the company was sending cease and desist letters to CS:GO gambling site owners and operators. The letter was sent to him by Valve, something Lewis was uncertain about for a while. Lewis did manage to get in contact with Valve who confirmed that the cease and desist letters were, in fact, genuine.

The letter reads:

“We are aware that you are operating one of the gambling sites listed below. You are using Steam accounts to conduct this business. Your use of Steam is subject to the terms of the Steam Subscriber Agreement”

The letter goes on to read that any of the 23 sites listed in the letter are gambling businesses and as such against the Steams rules. If the owners don’t act within ten days the groups could face legal action and their steam accounts getting shut down.
