Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Announced Too Early, Developers Admit

During the recent Nintendo Direct, Square Enix finally confirmed the launch date, but the wait has been long. In a tweet translated by Automaton Media, Team Asano acknowledged that the initial announcement was premature. They stated, “We’ve been told that too much time has passed since we announced the start of development, but this isn’t unusual, seeing as all of our titles have taken three to four years to develop. However, the initial announcement was too early compared to others. We are reflecting on this. So, thank you very much for waiting.”

The developers made the original announcement during the Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary livestream. Fans eagerly anticipated more news, but updates were sparse until the recent reveal. Team Asano’s reflection suggests they will be more cautious with future announcements.

In addition to Dragon Quest 3, Square Enix also surprised fans by announcing Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD remakes. These remakes will launch as one package next year.
