Nintendo and Pokémon Seek Compensation from Palworld, Amount Revealed

Nintendo and Pokémon Seek Compensation from Palworld, Amount Revealed

From the moment Palworld hit the market, we knew that sooner or later, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company would file a lawsuit against Pocketpair. While it took a couple of months, last September, the legal battle finally began. Now, the huge amount of money that Pokémon owners are seeking in compensation has been revealed.

The Financial Stakes in the Legal Battle

In a statement, Pocketpair revealed that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are seeking compensation of ¥5 million yen each, for a total of $10 million yen, or about $1.3 million pesos. That’s not all, as they are also demanding that damages for late payment in relation to patent infringement be reciprocated.

As already speculated, the lawsuit between Nintendo and The Pokémon Company is not related to the designs of the pals but rather to a patent that Pikachu’s parents registered on a round object that he uses to capture creatures — that is, the Pokéball. Let’s remember that in Palworld we see something very similar, and this has brought legal consequences against Pocketpair.

For its part, Pocketpair has stated that they do not plan to answer questions from the public, although they plan to share more information about this case whenever it is relevant.
