Bungie Accidentally Launches Destiny 2 Event Early with Unfinished Content

A few hours ago, Bungie accidentally launched the Rite of the Nine event in Destiny 2 ahead of its official release date. The event was supposed to go live on April 1, along with Act 3 of Heresy. This early launch caught the attention of the Destiny community.

The error was quickly spotted by players, who accessed the event and found unfinished rewards, such as weapons that were visually incomplete, though still fully functional.

A Mistake That Revealed Unfinished Content

The issue was first reported by Destiny Bulletin (thanks PC Gamer), which pointed out that the weapons from the event were available, but lacked final textures. These weapons were part of re-releases from three dungeons featured in the event: Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep. Even though they looked unfinished, the items were fully usable in the game at that time.

Despite being functional, this was not a planned early release, but rather a mistake that caused the content to activate too soon. Some players even managed to access the Contest difficulty, where enemies were already adjusted to a high level of challenge.

Bungie’s Response

Bungie quickly acknowledged the error in a post on Bluesky, explaining that they were working to disable all activities and rewards related to the event as soon as possible. However, it was not clarified whether the items players earned would be completely removed or simply locked until the official release date.

“We are aware of an issue where early, incomplete versions of Rite of the Nine Dungeons are accessible. Access to Rite of the Nine activities will be disabled as soon as possible, and all related rewards will be disabled from use until further notice. This content is still in the oven and are looking forward to the completed versions being released at a later date. We apologize for the hiccup!”

Despite the mistake, Rite of the Nine still promises to be a huge event, as the dungeons are among the most popular PvE activities in Destiny 2. Bungie has also updated the weapons with new perks and attributes, which may bring many players back to the game. The best part is that this content will be free for all players, without needing a season pass or the Final Shape expansion.
