Meta has been fined by Norway for 1,000,000 Krone (£76,204) per day over privacy breaches as reported by reuters.com

Meta Fined Again

Meta being fined for data privacy is just another Monday at this point and this time it’s the Norwegian data protection authority making the fine. The regulator, Datatilsynet, has decided to fine Meta 1,000,000 Krone which is around £76,000 per day unless the company takes action against the privacy breaches and says that Meta isn’t allowed to harvest data in Norway to target advertising at its users. The decision by the regulator has been pushed to the European Data Protection Board which could lead to a permanent fine and provide a wider scope for the rest of Europe.

More pressure on Meta to correct their data collection practices is good to see though in response to the issue Meta has said it would review the decision but there would be no immediate impact on its services. Facebook has already been met with a fine from the EU just a few months ago which was a record breaking $1.3 Billion, significantly more than Norway’s fine but the longer it takes Meta to clean its act the bigger this fine will get.
