iOS 7 On The iPhone 4 Reported As Unusable By Many Users

Softpedia and ARS Technica both report that iOS 7 is causing numerous problems on the iPhone 4. The general consensus is now that the 1GHz Cortex A8 processor on the Apple iPhone 4 is just no match for the new operating system. On Softpedia’s reports users commented broadly that the new iOS 7 on the iPhone 4 was a painful experience:

“There is at least a 5-15 second delay whenever I used the keyboard to type anything – pw to open phone, text, email, notes….. It is awful. I wish I could remove it and go back”

“iOS 7 has basically ruined my iphone 4”

“I installed iOS7 last night on my iPhone4 and my battery is worthless and my phone is HOT to the touch-burning hot….not a fan of that, otherwise, it seems to be working well…for the 5 mins it holds a charge”

Indeed testing by ARS Technica shows a notable drop in overall benchmark performance when moving from iOS 6 to iOS 7 on the iPhone 4. It also points out that a lot of the graphical effects and features of iOS 7 on the iPhone 4 have to be sacrificed in order to run it. ARS Technica claim 15 seconds more boot time and 20 minutes less battery life among other things. The key thing to take away from all of this is that if you have an iPhone 4 then you shouldn’t make the the upgrade to iOS 7 – if anything it is a downgrade because the usability of the phone is reduced substantially.
