Campo Santo Files DMCA Takedown for PewDiePie’s Firewatch Video

PewDiePie strikes again!

We’re all used to PewDiePie’s eccentricity, right? There’s nothing wrong with speaking your mind, surely, but when it comes to choice of words, the YouTube star has not been very careful. So far this year, he lost partnerships with YouTube and Disney because of an antisemitic video. Now, one of his videos is the focus of a DMCA Takedown. The complaint comes from Firewatch developer Campo Santo. Apparently, PewDiePie used a racial slur during one of his Firewatch gameplay videos, which prompted Campo Santo co-founder Sean Vanaman to take action.

The video is no longer available

The video in question is not available on YouTube anymore. However, sources indicate that it reached a total 5.7 million views. Sean stated that he will reach out to larger companies and urge them to take action against PewDiePie. His exact statement is the following:

“We’re filing a DMCA takedown of PewDiePie’s Firewatch content and any future Campo Santo game. There is a bit of leeway you have to have with the internet when [you] wake up every day and make video games. There’s also a breaking point. I am sick of this child getting more and more chances to make money off of what we make. He’s worse than a closeted racist: he’s a propagator of despicable garbage that does real damage to the culture around this industry.”

“I’d urge other developers & will be reaching out to folks much larger than us to cut him off from the content that has made him a millionaire. Furthermore, we’re complicit: I’m sure we’ve made money off of the 5.7M views that video has and that’s something for us to think about.”

That last part is probably true, but I’m sure nobody blames the developer for what went on. We’ll just have to wait and see what PewDiePie has to say about these recent accusations.

  1. You have some errors there…. he was shouting “nigger” during a PUBG stream, Campo Santo doesn’t approve of this and doesn’t want it’s content affiliated with pewdiepie and as such filed DMCA Takedowns. Check it on Kotaku
He didn’t say anything racist or bad during his Firewatch playthrough.

  2. its funny you Don’t see whites throwing a fit when blacks use racist words which they do quit often on TV and the ANTI Semitic Thing is even more laughable when you look at the fact the Jews in Israel are no better than the NAZI”s with the way they treat 2 million Palestinians daily, they Cry anti Semitic when ever someone criticizes them now and they have been doing that for decades the whole anti Semitic thing was created to squash people telling the truth about Israel and Zionist scum that live there.
