Dead Space Remake to Include Content Cut from Original Release!

Dead Space

Following a lot of rumour and speculation, EA finally confirmed last week that Dead Space, one of the most iconic survival horror games ever created, would be getting a full-blown remake designed to get the best out of the new next-gen consoles. While this news was undoubtedly very happily received by fans of the franchise, it did beg the question as to how much of a remake this was going to be. And perhaps more so, if we could expect to see anything new from it.

Well, following a report via PCGamesN, the team at Motive Studios, the developers in charge of this highly anticipated remake, have confirmed that they fully intend to reintroduce content that was cut from the original version of the game!

Speaking in an interview, creative director Roman Campos-Oriola has said that when given the game’s original asset files, they discovered that a significant amount of content was removed from the original Dead Space game. This isn’t, of course, unusual as nearly every game ever made generally has something in it that didn’t (or doesn’t) make the final release (*cough* Cyberpunk 2077’s monorail *cough*). – Having reviewed a number of the ideas presented, however, he has signalled their intent to reintroduce these to the Dead Space Remake that will, all going well, give fans not just a nice new glossy version of the game, but also new things to find and explore!

“We started with the original level design of the original Dead Space. What’s funny is that you can see some of the iterations that were made prior to ship by the team. In the first chapter, you can see some corridors that they wanted to do first in a certain way, and then you can understand why they changed it for technical constraints or [other reasons].

There are some improvements that we want to make to the story, not necessarily improvements because those things were not really working in the original, more improvements because of what came after, and we’re like, ‘Aw man, that’s interesting if we could reference that, or if we could make a link to that.”

Good News – Bad News!

So, the good news is that it does appear that the Dead Space Remake is in some pretty decent hands who seem committed to making the experience even better than the original title. The only notable downside is that, based on his comments, it would seemingly confirm that the development of this is in the exceptionally early stages. As such, it’s very difficult to currency ascertain exactly when the Dead Space Remake will be released. Put simply though, 2022 is looking unlikely, but fingers crossed that if all goes well, this will be the shot in the arm this franchise so desperately deserves!
