Apple to replace 1TB iMac faulty hard drives

Apple has responded to the owners of 21.5″ and 27″ iMac systems, acknowledging that there is an issue on the 1TB Seagate hard drives in those systems sold between May and July 2011. Owners can contact the company via three methods:

  • Apple Retail Store – Set up an appointment with a Genius.

  • Apple Authorized Service Provider – Find one here.

  • Apple Technical Support – Contact us for local service options

Replacement will be totally free since the problem is no fault of the owners and there is nothing that they could have done to prevent the faulty operation of the hard drives. Those with a suspected faulty drive will be contacted via Apple first so there should be no problem in resolving this issue. Apple also added that before owners bring in their faulty systems they should back up all important data.

Owners have a generous deadline of 23rd July 2012 to get the replacement done free of charge, however, users will have to reinstall their OS as the new hard drive will be totally blank. For more information visit the apple website here.
