Smuggler Gets Nicked With 420 SSDs Strapped Around His Stomach

In another classic smuggling fail, Chinese customs caught a man trying to traffic 420 M.2 SSDs by strapping them around his stomach.

Man Fails To Smuggle 420 SSDs

As reported by TomsHardware, Chinese customs caught a man trying to smuggle 420 SSDs into China from Macau to Zhuhai through the Gongbei Port. The HKEPC News outlet shared that the man had taped 420 M.2 SSDs around his stomach which were estimated to be worth around HK$258,000 roughly £25,700 and around £60 per SSD. Based on current prices that’s likely to be 1TB SSDs or some cheaper 2TB SSDs such as the Kingson NV2 at £75.79. It’s a risky job to smuggle hardware into mainland China but the profits for doing so can be great as it avoids the customs duties that the Chinese government places on the goods. Because of the high profit potential, it’s unlikely that smuggling will stop any time soon and that means we will continue to hear these brilliant stories of the wild methods that they use to smuggle the hardware.

So far I don’t think I’ve seen anything top the Lobsters hiding 70 graphics cards from a few months ago, that was an interesting one especially with the lobsters probably holding more value than the GPUs.
