Steam Family Sharing Lets You Lend Your Library To 10 People

2013-09-11_19-24-00

Steam have revealed a stunning new feature that allows you to share your entire game library, including all your DLC and related content with up to ten people, and while the emphasis has been placed on “family” you could of course share your account with anyway.

Naturally this has existed unofficially for a while, but it meant giving out your password and user login, but also meant allow people access to your cloud saves etc. Now that has all changed and while someone else is playing via a family login, they are able to upload save games to their own cloud saves folder.

The downside is that only one person can play at a time, but the account owner gets priority and if you login, then the guest user will get a notification to save and exit within the next few minutes, or the option to purchase the game on their own account to continue playing. In short, this could be the best way to get full game demos of any game your friends own before you buy them.

A service like this is incredible for people like myself, since I have a house with more than one Steam user, two PC’s and my girlfriend and I like to play games on our own computers, so now we can more effectively share our games! The best thing of course is that this service is going to be free of charge.

The limited beta launches in the next week, head over to the Family Sharing Steam group for more information.
