PC Shipments at Lowest for 3 years with 4.3% Quarterly Drop

PC shipments

PC shipments have hit a 3 year low as shipment figures plunge by nearly 5% in the last quarter. This market slowdown may indicate that mainstream suppliers are struggling with the competition. It may not necessarily be all doom and gloom. It is a possible indicator that another area of the PC market is substantially on the grow.

PC shipments slump to 3 year low!

In figures provided by NextPowerUp, they clearly outline that PC sales for mainstream manufacturers have dropped by 5% in the last quarter. This in itself might not be too alarming, but considering that this is indicative of a 3-year trend of slowdown, the main market leaders such as Lenovo, HP, Dell etc. are all likely starting to get a little worried about the long-term security of their products.

The only company who might be celebrating slightly is HP. The company has for the first time in a while, been able to overtake Lenovo to the top spot. Given the current downturn, however, that could easily also be described as being the best performing loser.

How are these awful PC Shipment figures possibly good news?

There is some irony that we did report something very much to the contrary of these current PC shipment figures. In what was surely a happier time, the figures were optimistic. The sun was shining on Dell and HP headquarters. I do believe that the slump in figures is not necessarily bad news. I think it is indicative of the growth of the custom PC market.

While PC shipment figures may be down, there is absolutely nothing to indicate that sales of PC components are. Let us be honest here as well, Dell, HP et. al. decided to come to the high-performance PC market rather late. We recently reported how HP had just launched its new line of Omen Gaming PC’s and while they are impressive, it all seems a bit too little too late.

So while PC shipment figures for the big boys might be down, I think it is just indicative that PC gamers know what they want.
