ASUS Hints at Development of ROG Ally Portable Console in Collaboration with Xbox
It looks like the rumors were true – ASUS is working on a new ROG Ally, as part of a collaboration with Microsoft to release portable consoles under the Xbox platform.
The Announcement on Twitter
ASUS recently teased this new development on Twitter (X), where they shared images of their previous ROG Ally, paired with a redesigned Xbox controller that fits the signature style of the company’s Republic of Gamers (ROG) line. The video showed both devices being placed into a machine, leading to the reveal of a mysterious console.
The official Xbox Twitter account responded to the post with a meme, adding to the excitement and curiosity surrounding the project.
What to Expect from the New Console
While this won’t be a true Xbox Portable, the new device is likely to be a console running Windows (possibly the ASUS ROG Ally 2). It could have access to certain Xbox platform features, with optimizations for cross-platform games available on PC, but it may not include Xbox’s exclusive games. Microsoft had already confirmed that they were working on Xbox portable prototypes, but it was stated that they would not hit the market for several years.
The video was posted yesterday, 5 AM PT on April 1st, in the United States. In some countries like the U.S., April 1st is their April Fool’s Day, so ASUS and Microsoft could be playing a joke. However, given previous leaks, it seems likely that this device will actually launch this year.
