Collectors love things that are brand new and in their boxes, it’s not about playing with the goods inside the box, it’s about owning a piece of history, a collectible. Nintendo’s Japanese site have had a dig through their storage room and busted out one such collectible, a brand new in box Famicon Computer, well new old stock, and that’s not something you see every day.

The Famicom, better known as the NES outside of Japan, originally launched back in 1983, so it’s amazing that Nintendo still has a stock room which has a fair few of them still new in their boxes. Why did Nintendo bust it open? Most likely as a PR stunt for their soon-to-be-released plug-and-play mini-console version of the NES, which should be out in time for Christmas. If it was a PR stunt for that, it just worked, well played Nintendo, well played.

Check out the images below, as you may never see one of these in such perfect condition again. What makes things even cooler is that computer that’s older than most of our readers still works! I wonder if a new old stock Xbox One or PS4 would power on after 30+ years in a store room… perhaps we’ll see one day.
