Crytek May Go Bankrupt, Ryse Flopped, CryEngine Adoption Low
Crytek are one of the best development studios around, with brands such as Crysis to their name, they’ve long been a corner stone of high-end PC gaming. Unfortunately it looks like the studio is falling on hard times as their recent software release Ryse was about as entertaining as a wet sponge, not to mention their game engine software CryEngine has suffered low adoption rates compared to rivals such as Unreal, Unity and countless others.
According to German magazine Gamestar, the company may have to file for bankruptcy if it cannot find a big pile of money to patch up its problems. Crytek may have some innovative graphics technology at their disposal, but if they’re struggling to turn a profit from it, then they’re in serious trouble. Rumour has it that several major publishers are already preparing to try snag some of the Crytek IP’s at a bargain price should the company go bust or sell of some titles to stem the tide.
With around 800 employees to its name, Crytek going under could create a lot of problems for a lot of hard working people. It’s already being reported that the staff at Crytek received their pay late, and many are already applying for new job; jumping ship before it sinks completely.
It now looks like Cryteks hopes are pinned on Homefront: The Revolution which is due to launch next year.
We are patiently waiting for something official from Crytek, but it certainly doesn’t look like the issues are going to clear up any time soon.

Servs you right, for turning your back to PC community with Ryse!
That’s awfully petty.
If you’re going to throw the turncoat accusation out there, why not with Crysis 2? They are a games company first and foremost, and there is more money to be made across all systems instead of limiting yourself to a single platform.
ryse is a good game in my opinion, but the only problem that i belive happend, was that the game is exclusive for xbox one, and not all plataforms, so sad that a great company go bankruptcy for this reason.
CRYSIS 2 was the last good game they released and still today is one of the few games that puts PC’s to task on graphics.
Sure it may not have been as good as crysis but then look at the original farcry nothing has lived upto that.
Ultimately gambling on a specific console release and picking the wrong side has cost them though.
I’d argue that Crysis 3 was better than Crysis 2 and a bit more taxing if you were looking to max it.
I guess that comes with the territory, I mean they set the bar so high and the ever-shifting game landscape makes things difficult to keep topping your previous efforts.
Yeah, the exclusivity deal was a bit baffling to me, seemed like Microsoft was hell bent on trying to prove the graphical prowess of the X1 and Crytek for whatever reason bit.
Time to start to buy her games
A pity: I love the CryEngine…
Oh god please don’t let EA buy them!!! Then they really will hit the trash can
It’s laughable that you think the sole issue lays with Ryse. The company is so poor at managing their assets and IP’s that money is being dumped in all the wrong places. The opinions of the developers are all severely undervalued and usually ignored. They’re still living in the glory days and refuse to change their formula. Throw in the facts that employees are severely under-payed; they haven’t produced a game with what one would call “gameplay” since Crysis 1, and to top it off they fired 98% of the original crew. Hell, I would likely jump ship too if studios in California were paying more, had better titles in production, and actually payed attention to their Devs, as opposed to padding their wives’ Ferrari service bills. Just one random’s opinion.
“the sole issue lays with Ryse” at what point in the article did we say this?
Pardon, I meant to reply to comments below. I was just merely outlining items I found in other articles as well. Majority of reposts are crediting Ryse’s subpar sales as a large contributing factor.
Ah fair enough. So often we get comments from people who only read the title, first sentence etc haha. Crytek fucked up hard on Ryse though, the over hired to meet deadlines and someone forgot to tell them to make a game beneath the graphics technology, a real shame.
I hope they get their shit together though, would be sad to see another THQ style meltdown.
i wonder which will come firs, Bankcruptcy or Homefront?
Being one of the people who has invested in the $60 game and it’s $19.99 season pass. I’ve really gotten a lot of Ryse: Son of Rome.
Being one of the people to invest in the $60 game and it’s $19.99 season pass. I have really gotten a lot out of Ryse: Son of Rome. The first month playing this game I would be playing the Campaign mode a few times(including legendary mode), along with it’s arena mode on the side.. Marius’s vengeance is superb to me, the story nearly flawless and doesn’t go too overboard either. But when Crytek announced it’s survival mode, I completely play this game every fucking day (It’s been months of survival now) haha. I understand why people didn’t like it, Xbox One exclusive, not many people own an Xbox one anyways. But from Crytek to me, you have impressed me with this game. We probably won’t see another one ever…. But I think it is the best game I have ever played. You can laugh at me too, but I have had the original Xbox since the beginning and this is the best by far in my opinion. Thank goodness that we have to install the discs now, my disc would have been broken by with how much i’ve played it. Good job to Crytek, you’ll always remembered by me haha.

Should have sold Ryse to Microsoft when have they ask too.
