AMD Unveils Polaris-Based Radeon E9170 Series GPU

AMD is launching the new Polaris-based Radeon E9170 embedded graphics series. The E9170 (E for Embedded) comes in PCIe, MXM, and MCM formats. In fact, the latter is the first MCM embedded Polaris. However, the 8CU and 1.25 TFLOPS GPU is designed for industrial and commercial applications. Unlike the high and ultra-high performance E9260 and E9550, respectively, the E9170is designed to be power-efficient. Indeed, the chip boasts TDP as low as 35W.

E9170 Series GPU Specifications

  • 14nm FinFET “Polaris” architecture
  • Eight Compute Units; 1.2 TFLOPS
  • 2 or 4GB GDDR5 Memory; 64- or 128-bit wide
  • 35-50W Total Board Power; 35W TGP for MCM
  • Graphics Clock 1124 or 1219MHz
  • Memory Clock 1500MHz
  • AMD Eyefinity technology for up to five display outputs2
  • 4K HEVC/H.265 and AVC/H.264 decode and encode3; 4K support at 60Hz
  • Microsoft DirectX 12 capable

Key Features of the E9170 Series GPU

  • Up to 1.25 TFLOPS at sub-40W TDP board power, setting a new benchmark within the AMD Radeon Power-Efficient Embedded GPU portfolio by delivering up to 3X the performance-per-watt over previous generations.
  • 4K optimization and flexible multi-display configurability to enable rich multimedia and design versatility.
  • Features include 4K HEVC/H.265iii and AVC/H.264 decode and encode, and up to five display outputs using HDMI® 2.0 and/or DisplayPort 1.4.
  • Available in compact MCM, standard MXM and PCI Express card form factors.
  • Planned availability through 2024 to ensure support continuity for long-lifecycle products and next-generation designs.
  • 4K and 3D support ensures unparalleled visual immersion.
  • 4GB memory (128bit GDDR5) for high-performance needs.

Price and Availability

The Radeon E9170 Series GPU is out in PCIe and MXM form later this month. Meanwhile, the MCM module configuration launches in November. However, pricing is not yet available.
